*. Islamic Marriage: In Islamic law (sharia), marriage (zawaj) is a legal bond and social contract between a man and a woman. Islam considers marriage as a solemn family relationship between a man and a woman, based on mercy and love.
*. Marriage Engagement:
The many customs as regards engagement are contrary to the Sunnah. A verbal proposal answer is sufficient.
*. Mahr : This word is often translated as “dowry” but is better expressed as “bridal gift.” Mahr is the gift that is given by the husband to his wife at wedding. It can be anything in any amount, as agreed by the bride & groom.
*. The Nikah Ceremony: Nikah, or nikkah, is the matrimonial contract between a bride and bridegroom within Islamic marriage. Nikah is based on several conditions. When these conditions are fulfilled, then a man and a woman are proclaimed as husband and wife and can live together and carry on their marital duties.
*. Witnesses:
Two adult witnesses are required to verify the marriage contract.

*. The Marriage Khutbah:
This is not essential; the mariage will be legal without it; however, it is Sunnah to have a Khutbah.
*. Valima (Walima, Dinner): The public celebration of a marriage usually involves a wedding party (walimah). Valima is highly recommended on the groom. The relatives, neighbors and friends must be invited for Valima. However, lavish spending is not advisable especially when the same money can be used effectively by the couple.
*. Marriage Frist Night: It is highly recommended that the wedding should take place at night. The hadith says, "Take the bride to her new home during the night."
Is it necessary to have sexual intercourse on the very first night after the wedding or can it be delayed? As far as the Shariah is concerned, it is neither obligatory nor forbidden to have sex on the first night. It is a private decision between the newly wed couple; it has nothing to do with others.
*. Married Life:
After all the parties are over, the new couple settles into life as husband and wife. In Islam, the marriage relationship is characterized by safety, comfort, love, and mutual rights and responsibilities.
